Fresh off of what has been the biggest blizzard of the year, the Detroit music scene is frigid and piled high with the stuff that makes it difficult to get anywhere. No matter, those deep into the Detroit concert scene will not be deterred. Come hell or high water, music will be supported, good times will be had, and the arctic tundra outside will be temporarily forgotten. While outside offers a miserable winter wonderland, Hastings Street Ballroom offers an indoor wonderland through the lens of the looking glass. A theatrical adaptation of the Lewis Carroll novel, blood, burlesque, and beauty come together in psychedelic fashion. It’s exactly what you think; it’s being serenaded by a guy in a cat costume, dancers in trippy costumes, an absolute descent into madness. A traditional presentation of the story, the performance is full of plenty of theatrics; balloon dances, strip teases, bungee dancing; a freakish and wonderfully artistic interpretation.
