The new year of Detroit concerts is starting off with quite the bang, and this weekend may be the most eventful one thus far. With the unseasonably nice weather and shows you will regret if you miss, this is the time to pony up and face January in Michigan. There’s never been a better time to support local artists on the cusp of actually making money with their music. Downtown Brown, Amino Acids, I Crime, Noman, and The Summer Pledge could all use your support in giving them the final push needed to get them noticed. As much as they love Detroit, I’m sure any one of the bands wouldn’t mind getting the hell out of the city for a tour or two. It’s time to grab jack frost by the balls, and get out there for some shows.
Also check out the shoegaze wizards out of Hoboken, NJ, Yo La Tengo at the Crofoot in Pontiac. With a huge indie cult following, Yo La Tengo has become one of the bands that you should probably know. Spanning from fuzzy shoegaze to straight indie rock, they will take the stage of the Crofoot in Pontiac along with Times New Viking. One of the quintessential Detroit concerts featuring a band that has been called ‘the quintessential critic’s band’ Yo La Tengo at the Crofoot is one more reason to man up and see what the Detroit music scene has to offer.
