Based on the classic Mel Brooks comedy, a musical presentation of Young Frankenstein will be coming to the Detroit Opera House. A re-imagination of the journey Dr. Frankenstein’s journey to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, the performance is an upbeat discourse about ethical arguments and death, a classic horror comedy set to some deliciously cheeky music. The classic story of the impacting Mary Shelly classic, Mel Brooks created a classic piece of cinema that finds the humor in tragedy, a light hearted romp through the monster realm with Dr. Frankenstein, his hunchback assistant Igor, and voluptuous lab assistant Inga.
With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” Young Frankenstein blends the perfect amount of humor and horror. It’s the perfect cheesy horror film to make fans laugh and cringe all in the same night. Culturally relevant even to this day, many references have been made to Young Frankenstein in virtually every vein of art. Now Detroiters will get the opportunity to see a live interpretation right within their city. Sure to be as compelling (probably even moreso) than Evil Dead: The Musical which graced Ferndale a few months ago, fans of horror and art alike can come together between February 23 and March 14 to see Young Frankenstein in ways they never imagined.
