Detroit is all about three letters. D. I. Y. And for the second year in a row, Detroit’s best do-it-yourselfers will gather at Henry Ford for Maker Faire Detroit. Hackers, crafters and makers of all things will be displaying their talent and blowing your mind, Saturday July 30, and Sunday July 31st, from 9:30am to 6:00pm.
Maker Faire started in 2006 in San Mateo California, and has also been held in New York and Detroit. It is the foremost event for American underground innovation. It is the largest festival of its kind; a marquee of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, as well as a celebration of the maker’s mind.
Highlights of the event will include showcases by the Ferndale-based hackerspace, i3Detroit, Theatre Bizzare, The Heidelberg Project and ColorMotion Puppetry, among others. There will be crafts, robots, new methods of transportation, puppets, music and fun for the whole family!
Saturday evening will be full of fun events for Maker Faire goers as well. The first ever regional Ignite Great Lakes event will be held at The Fillmore, doors open at 7:00pm. There will also be an afterparty at i3Detroit which starts at 9:00pm.
