About DU
You are in the midst of a declining Detroit economy, unstable employment situation, an uncertainty about the future, and all you want is to find some good underground music in your beloved city. You’ve heard enough of the Kid Rocks and Bob Segers creeping into every facet of your music life, you crave a place to see where all the underground events are happening and the music is still relatively unknown. You are starving for an alternative voice in entertainment, something new to be apart of, being the one that discovers the new bands, broaden your horizons, see what the Detroit underground is all about; you’ve found it.
Throughout the years, Detroit has become a hub for a younger crowd looking to delve into the artistic nature of the city and enjoy underground subculture. Bands including the White Stripes, Dirtbombs, and Cinecyde have influenced the rock genre, while Rappers including Eminem and ICP have influenced the hip hop music scene. With many prolific acts constantly coming out of the city, many have become attuned to what Detroit has to offer. Great bars, interesting venues, and a lot of character bring the younger crowd to the city and draws the attention of outsiders interested in the unique scene.
This is the Detroit underground, all the information we can possibly gather in order to promote what is a truly unique scene to be a part of. These are the bands and events that will keep you occupied in this abysmal economy, give your music snobbery a boost, and show you exactly what the city of Detroit has to offer. Who knows weather or not the D will ever be restored to the prestige that it once held from a cultural standpoint, but the cultural spark of the city is far from extinguished.
