From the depths of the Detroit underground comes the progressive Detroit band the Phage. With a touch of classic rock and a whole heap of experimentation, this band offers awesome riff heavy rock arranged in ways you’ve likely never heard. After years of dwelling deep within the Detroit local scene, the Phage has finally emerged as a staple in the underground rock scene of the city and will be featured at the Hamtramck Blowout among other shows around Detroit. Their new album Princess Magma is 14 tracks of pure experimental rock joy; a truly remarkable album with plenty of diverse rock elements perfect for an A.D.D. generation.

They’re unique, they’re loud, and they’re one of the prime examples of how Detroit music has a way of taking a base genre and distorting into something almost recognizable. Confident in their music ability, the Phage is able to basically do whatever they want musically and still tie it back into classic/garage rock. Each song is diverse in its own way; filled with towering vocals, meaty riffs, and upbeat drum kicks. A true progression from the beginning, the new album Princess Magma is well produced, extremely diverse, and can hang with any other progressive rock album out there today.

Dabbling in genres including pop, punk, rock, heavy metal, and so on, it’s impossible to classify the Phage as a single genre. It’s simply a blending of wide varieties of musical talents and doing whatever the hell they feel like. Knowing that their musicianship is solid enough to go all over the map, the Phage shows the balls it takes to truly break onto a scene. Rolling up everything we love about Detroit music into one dynamic stage show is what the Phage is all about. Don’t miss them on March 4th at the New Dodge in Hamtramck as part of the Hamtramck Blowout.

If you’ve grown wary of garage rock, experimental pop, or the hardcore scene of Detroit music, why not check out a band that offers a mish-mash of everything. Rock music has never been so schizophrenic-period.
