Zoos of Berlin is not a new face in the Detroit indie scene, but the release of their first full length album has catapulted them into the national underground scene. Recently reviewed by the hipster Mecca for music Pitchfork Media, Zoos of Berlin has become more than just a local pop outfit. Being compared to the style of pop music sensations Brian Eno and David Bowie, Zoos of Berlin offer listeners sophisticated and unconventional pop music that stray from the genre but never actually break its hold. Airy, charming, and unlike anything you’ve ever heard emerge from any scene, the band incorporates hand picked pop elements from some of the most influential artists in the genre and adds their own spin to it, making their music extremely textured and original.

Their first full-length release titled Taxis is self produced in a makeshift studio in a completely real fashion (not digitally recorded). Zoos of Berlin is just a sliver of the incredible Detroit music scene that spans so many genres in original fashion. Check them out at various venues throughout the Detroit area and see one of the few underground Detroit bands that actually claim to be pop music in an area known for punk and garage rock.

Being voracious music listeners themselves, they draw influences from virtually every walk of music which is reflected in their rich and textured style. Their new album Taxis is a combination of songs that have been in the works for years as well as some new tracks. Bringing an element of class to Detroit underground music is kind of what Zoos of Berlin is about. Taxis is an elegant mix of baroque pop and experimental that is relatively unseen in the Detroit underground. It deviates, it changes, it keep one guessing, it maintains a pop feel throughout without being too tied to the sound.
