ICrime might be one of the best examples of what melodic indie rock or modernized emo (if you must) should sound like. Fuzzy guitars and constantly changing melodies backed by brilliantly coordinated male/female vocals makes ICrime a wonderfully sounding outfit. It’s amazing that the band has not blown up into national stardom after only a few years of being together, but their potential and possibilities are limitless. They can go from heartbreaking, to face-breaking within the same song and span the different styles throughout all of their diverse albums. Their sour turned sweet, sweet turned sour, and everything in between will appeal to a wide variety of audiences and demographics, making them one of the Detroit bands to watch out for in the future.
Until their breakthrough, they are kind of notorious for playing at every unique show in the Detroit area (e.g. playing at the Detroit Science Center). Their official bio describes the quartet as not needing many hyphens in order to describe their sound, but the rich and diverse music as ICrime cannot be easily generalized; not to mention that any band that features an accordion is never easy to overgeneralize. Take the chance to catch ICrime every chance you get, it’s only a matter of time before they’ll be playing in venues that cost more than $5 and don’t offer free beer.
They’ve been described as Black Sabbath meets the Marvelettes, and with the recruitment of Mike V. to their band, their music is much fuller now. One common theme in ICrime’s material is that every song goes somewhere. So much more than fuzzed out indie rock fluff, ICrime says some real shit and connects with the audience on a deeper level than just “Hey this is good music”.
