Noman is a highly complex indie, post rock, insert other genres here band from Detroit which is not to be confused with the British trip hop outfit No-man. Stating their influences as being poverty, addiction, the city, and the struggle, Noman gives listeners a completely honest and real style of music with a great indie rock tinge. Listeners of Noman will also notice a hint of soul layered over their honest and far from pretentious lyrics. A band for basically anyone who likes music at all, Noman holds a place in the Detroit underground music scene that only they can fill.

Their first record titled Broadcast was recorded in Chicago at the legendary Electric Studio by Steve Albini (Nirvana/Pixies). Some of what makes Noman so original is the fact that even without utilizing a bassist, they have created some great sounding indie rock with a lot of texture. They admittedly go for a simplistic approach to their music, straying away from the overly complicated and contrived. Needless to say, an indie rock snob’s dream.

Currently in charge of Woodbridge Records which hosts bands such as ICrime and the Summer Pledge, Noman fully embraces the independent and underground nature of the Detroit music scene. Their record label by the name of Woodbridge, is independent in every sense of the word. Talented artists come to them and entrust them with their art, while they are required to pour their own hard earned dough into the endeavor. Many individuals from Detroit are well aware of the struggle and self satisfaction of self-supported effort, and Noman embodies that both in their music and label.

They have the right idea both in what they are doing and the overview of the Detroit underground music industry. Noman is striving to create a DIY attitude that others should definitely adopt. They say that the lack of competition within the vein is what it needs more of in order to thrive on a national level.
