Simply put, Harpos is hardcore. This is where you’ll go to see some of the most famous and ruthless bands from all over the world. The Misfits, Slipknot, Motorhead, and other large acts that will absolutely brutalize you appear at Harpos. Be aware, the hardcore attitude of the bands usually reflects on the guests at this divey venue absolutely dripping with character. Only the hardest of hardcore music fans are recommended to travel to the heart of Detroit and become completely obliterated by the myriad of brutal shows of bands both old and new.
Many guests who frequent Harpos describe it as a rite of passage to suburban kids who think they’re street. This is basically accurate. The place is hardcore anyway you slice it. From the no joke location to the take no lip from no indie kid crowd, Harpos is a truly well put together metal bar. From the terrible bathrooms to the pit that will sometimes get the best of even the most gargantuan of metal heads, Harpos has a vibe that definitely cannot be denied. Drinks are insanely cheap, so you may find yourself using the lackluster facilities more often than you would like to, but the street cred that comes with frequenting Harpos is priceless.
Reviews of the place will tell you that the soundsystem is one of the best in Detroit, but keep your wits about you, the area in which Harpos is located is not a place to be trifled with.
