Lager House

Lager HouseLocation:
1254 Michigan Avenue
Detroit, MI

The Lager House is a true Detroit experience unparalleled inĀ  in any other city. After the famous Gold Dollar of Detroit closed, the Lager House has stepped up to become the central hub for emerging underground acts. A side by side lounge/music area on either side of the venue makes it a great place to hang out or listen to music. Located in Corktown, the oldest neighborhood in Detroit, the historic surroundings are both culturally enriching and historic. Guests are joined by legendary Detroit garage acts including the Dirtbombs, Detroit Cobras, Witches, and many more acts all which enjoyed gigs at the Lager House. Anyone interested in Detroit underground must visit the Lager House at least once, it’s pretty much mandatory.

The sound system is perfectly reasonable for the small, smoky dive, but this is where the Detroit underground thrives. Cheap drink prices and a decent beer selection makes the place even more appealing and the Lager House has played host to many bands that have broken into the mainstream and are just on the verge. One of the few bars that are perfect for seeing bands play and that being their main focus. You won’t be distracted by televised poker, band jukeboxes, or abrasively loud background music (unless of course you aren’t a fan of the band playing, and in which case why would you be there?)

PJ’s Lager House is one of the best places to immerse yourself in the Detroit scene without pretentiousness or high drink prices. If you’ve got a 5 spot, you’ve likely got enough cash to enjoy a great local act and hang out with some pretty sweet people.
