Painted Lady
Location:
2929 Jacob Steet
Hamtramck, MI
In the somewhat difficult to find neighborhood of Hamtramck lies the most deliciously divey bar called the Painted Lady. Here is one of the best illustrations of the Detroit underground music scene. The bar is almost impossible to find, the shows are incredibly cheap, and the beer is far from expensive. The first time one experiences the Painted Lady, it is truly a site to behold. Nice and dark for the underground kinds who prefer to dwell in the shadows, not the best acoustics in the world, and a truly diverse group of individuals make the Painted Lady one of the Detroit bars with a great deal of character.
Other than the great live underground shows that the Painted Lady has to offer, it has other events throughout the week including B horror movies shown on the big screen every Sunday. Tuesdays are great for drinking and playing pool with free games of billiards with the purchase of every pitcher, Thursdays is ballroom dancing, and Friday and Saturday usually involve live shows. From the visually abrasive exterior to the dim interior, the Painted Lady is truly a staple of the Detroit underground scene.
